この度、Yeji Sei Lee個展《光の下で歳をとる-Whatever returns from oblivion returns to find a voice-》を2025年11月26日（水）から12月8日（月）まで、日本橋三越コンテンポラリーギャラリーにて、開催いたします。
We are pleased to announce Yeji Sei Lee’s solo exhibition,Aging Beneath the Light — Whatever Returns from Oblivion Returns to Find a Voice,to be held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Contemporary Gallery from Wednesday, November 26 to Monday, December 8, 2025.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
本展《光の下で歳をとる》は、これまで意識の奥に沈んでいた記憶や、言葉として捉えきれなかった感覚に、絵画という形式を通してゆっくりと輪郭を与えようとする試みである。
私の関心は、個人を越えた集合的な気配、身体の群れが場にもたらす温度や湿度、時間の滲みといった「存在の作用」にある。人が集い、動き、そうした営為を通して蓄積される視線や呼吸の層、積み重なることで生まれる場の厚みを、絵具という物質の層を通して可視化したいと考えている。
近年、各地を移動する中で触れてきた光の移ろいや空気の重さは、特定の土地に帰属する記憶というよりも、時間や距離のなかで沈殿し、やがて感覚の底に滞留する「光の記憶」として私の中に残っている。それは、いずれも声を持たずにいた感覚であり、しかし尚、私の内部で何かを静かに照らし続けてきたもの。
幾重にも塗り重ねた絵具の中に、かつて見た場面や、まだ言葉にならない像たちが少しずつ立ち上がってくる。それはまさに副題 “Whatever returns from oblivion returns to find a voice（忘却から戻るものは、声を探して戻る）” に込められた通りの感覚であり、制作を続ける中で沈黙のまま残されてきた風景たちが、今ようやく語り始める場としてこの展覧会がある。
※副題 “Whatever returns from oblivion returns to find a voice” は、アメリカの詩人 Louise Glück による詩集『The Wild Iris』（1992）からの一節を引用。
This exhibition, Under the Light We Age, is an attempt to give form—through painting—to memories that have long rested deep within consciousness, and to sensations that could never quite be grasped in words.
My interest lies in the presence of existence—the collective atmosphere that transcends the individual, the temperature and humidity brought by gatherings of bodies, the slow seepage of time itself. Through layers of paint, I seek to make visible the density of a place that accumulates through such acts: the intertwining of glances, breaths, and gestures over time.
In recent years, as I have moved from place to place, the shifting light and the weight of the air I’ve encountered have settled within me not as memories belonging to a specific land, but as memories of light—deposits of time and distance that quietly linger at the bottom of perception. These sensations have remained voiceless, yet they have continued to illuminate something within me in silence.
Within the many layers of paint, the scenes I once witnessed and the images not yet shaped into words slowly surface. This, to me, echoes the feeling contained in the subtitle, “Whatever returns from oblivion returns to find a voice.” This exhibition becomes a place where those long-muted landscapes—left unspoken through the course of my practice—begin, at last, to speak.
The subtitle “Whatever returns from oblivion returns to find a voice” is taken from The Wild Iris (1992) by the American poet Louise Glück.
