この度、THE LOOP GALLERYでは2022年9月16日（金）から10月4日（火）まで、菊地匠の個展『halōn』を開催いたします。
The Loop Gallery is pleased to present halón, a solo exhibition by Takumi Kikuchi from September 16 through October 4, 2022.
菊地は、学生時代からヴァルター・ベンヤミンをはじめとする西洋哲学から多大な影響を受け、物事の本質を洞察する哲学者たちが紡ぎ出す言葉を絵画表現のプロセスに落とし込み、作品として昇華させます。代表的なものに独自の技法である「オフペインティング」があります。一度紙に描いた絵具をぬぐうことで、描かれた花々や人物像は、菊地特有の幽玄な雰囲気を纏いながら空白をも支配し、見るものを彼の世界観に引き込みます。
Kikuchi was inspired by the German philosopher, Walter Benjamin and uses words from philosophers to draw his works. “Off-painting” is Kikuchi’s original technique, which is wiping paints once painted to create mystery atmosphere even a blank space.
本展のタイトルである「halōn」は、古代ギリシャ語で「盤面」を意味します。現代イタリアの哲学者ジョルジョ・アガンベンは、盤面の上に潜勢力(内部に潜んでいて、表面には現れていない勢力)、すなわち可能性が眠ると語っています。今回菊地は、画家として真っ白なパネルを盤面と捉え、全容を捉えさせない自身の作品にその哲学を投影させます。 彼が、何を描かなかったのか。 空白を漂う幾多の運命に思いを馳せる時間は、目まぐるしく移り変わる現代社会を生きる私たちに、ただその場に留まる勇気や安らぎをもたらします。
The title of this exhibition, “halon” means surface of a board in ancient Greek. Giorgio Agamben, an Italian philosopher, talks about the potential and power that lies within and on the surface. In halon, Kikuchi takes a solid white panel as a surface of a board to project philosophy. What he didn’t drawHis artwork is a great reminder for all of us who strive in this modern society to take a moment to breathe.
